ABERDEEN 27, NORTH FREMONT 16
No. 2 Aberdeen’s defense was stellar and the offense was consistent in a 27-16 win over North Fremont on Friday in Ashton.
Jared Carrasco threw a 35-yard touchdown to Carson Beck and had another 88 yards and two touchdowns rushing.
It was Carrasco’s 9-yard plunge in the fourth quarter that helped the Tigers hold off a late rally.
Aberdeen led 21-0 in the fourth quarter. North Fremont scored on a Tanner Oberhansley touchdown run, and on the successive Aberdeen drive, the Huskies pounced on a fumble. Suddenly a three-touchdown Aberdeen lead was down to 21-16 after North Fremont’s Stockton Dye leaped into the end zone from 2 yards out.
The Tigers, however, were composed. Aberdeen marched right down the field and Carrasco answered with the final score of the game.
“We absolutely owned the line of scrimmage,” said Tigers coach Jeff Duffin. “Our offensive and defensive lines completely dictated the game.”
Aberdeen (3-0) plays Friday at Ririe.
BLACKFOOT 49, IDAHO FALLS 12
Blackfoot picked up its first win of the season behind 178 yards passing and four touchdowns from Pacen Hayes in a 49-12 win against Idaho Falls on Friday at home.
Hayes threw touchdowns to Taylor Pearson (three catches, 48 yards), Nathon Colvin (2-25) and Cole Burt (2-112), and the Broncos held the Tigers to 43 yards passing.
Blackfoot tailback Jager Leavitt had nine carries for 138 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The Broncos (1-2) play Friday at Century.
AMERICAN FALLS 50, FILER 27
American Falls outscored Filer 22-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away in a 50-27 win Friday on the road.
“We started competing. Our defense has been struggling but we finally figured it out,” said Beavers coach Tony Cade. “They’re finally getting it. It finally clicked to them what we we’re trying to say. It’s the first time all year that we were able to finish an entire game.”
The Beavers (1-2) play Friday at Soda Springs.
FIRTH 39, MALAD 6
Firth’s defense kicked into gear and the Cougars knocked off Malad 39-6 Friday on the road.
Cougars quarterback Brodie Cate threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Dylan Holley ran for 155 yards and one score. Firth’s Lucus Orme had three catches for 105 yards, including one 49-yard pass and catch with Cate.
The Dragons got on the board when Hayden Green scored on a touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Firth (2-1) hosts South Fremont on Friday and Malad (1-2) plays at North Fremont.
NORTH GEM 56, RICHFIELD 24
North Gem’s offense couldn’t be contained in the Cowboys’ 56-24 win over Richfield on Friday in Bancroft.
North Gem ran for 318 yards and threw for another 60 in the air. Tyler Perkins finished with 150 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries. Quarterback Walker Davids had 63 yards on the ground and a 5-yard TD pass to Carson Lloyd.
“We had the speed factor on them and the kids were able to execute this week,” said Cowboys coach Dana Strong.
North Gem (2-1) plays Friday against Mackay in a junior varsity game.
GRACE 69, HORSESHOE BEND 6
With their starting quarterback Paycen Jensen back in tow, Grace blitzed Horseshoe Bend 69-6 Friday at home.
“That made a huge difference, just for the mental state for the game,” said Grizzlies coach Brandon Sanchez on having his QB back. “He’s only a sophomore but he leads that team back there and it was huge. We just opened up huge holes in the middle.”
Grace (2-1) plays Friday at Challis.
CAREY 56, ROCKLAND 18
Rockland’s Spencer Permann threw for two touchdowns and 162 yards, but the Bulldogs lost to third-ranked Carey 56-18 Friday at home.
Permann hit Ridge Farr for touchdowns of 60 and 80 yards in the second quarter. It wasn’t enough to keep up with mighty Carey, but Rockland coach Lance Freeman liked how his team responded after falling behind 26-0 in the first quarter.
“The kids have shown a lot of improvement over the first three weeks,” Freeman said. “To be able to play as well as they did against Carey says a lot for how young they are.”
Rockland (0-3) plays Friday at Clark County.
