One day after not being selected to appear in the NCAA Tournament, the Boise State men’s basketball team on Monday received an invite to appear in the College Basketball Crown tournament, a new 16-team postseason tournament which will give the Bronco players a chance to earn NIL money for themselves.

Boise State (24-10) will open the tournament at 3:30 p.m. on March 31 against George Washington at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Broncos and the Revolutionaries (21-12) of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The entire tournament will take place over the span of a week in Las Vegas, with the championship game taking place on April 6 at T-Mobile Arena. The first two rounds will be televised on FS1, with the semifinal and championship games airing on FOX.

Boise State, which missed out on clinching an automatic bid to the Big Dance with a 69-56 loss to Colorado State on Saturday in the Mountain West Tournament championship game, was one of the first four teams out of the selection committee’s field, with Texas, Xavier, San Diego State and North Carolina being the four teams selected to play in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.

The Broncos could have been a No. 1 seed in the NIT, with an opportunity to play home games at ExtraMile Arena, had they accepted. Instead, the Broncos chose to play in a tournament making its debut this season, with a potential NIL prize involved with it.

As an incentive, teams that reach the semifinal and championship rounds will be awarded an NIL package. According to Sports Illustrated, semifinal losers will receive $50,000, the runner-up will receive $100,000 and the champion will be awarded $300,000.

The winner of Boise State’s first-round game will face the winner of a game between Utah and Butler. Other teams participating are Arizona State, Cincinnati, Colorado, DePaul, Georgetown, Nebraska, Oregon State, Tulane, UCF, USC, Villanova and Washington State.
