Bacteria that cause Legionnaires' disease have been found in a Yankee Stadium cooling tower in New York City. Health officials say it's one of 10 towers that tested positive for Legionella bacteria amid 10 recent cases of the disease in the Bronx, including one death. The city Health Department said Sunday that more tests are being conducted to determine if the bacteria are live. Only live bacteria can cause Legionnaires' disease. The Yankees say none of the current cases has been linked to the stadium and the stadium cooling tower was cleaned Sunday. Legionnaires' disease is a form of pneumonia and is treatable, but can be fatal.

Former Wisconsin tight end Jack Pugh’s death resulted from acute bronchopneumonia, a type of pneumonia. The Franklin County (Ohio) Coroner’s Office says the 24-year-old Pugh, who died March 30, had this lung infection due to cardiomyopathy with hepatosplenomegaly. Cardiomyopathy is a disease that reduces the heart’s ability to pump blood. Hepatosplenomegaly is the result of an enlarged liver and spleen. People magazine first reported the coroner’s report on Pugh’s death. Pugh stepped away from football three years ago while citing mental health concerns. He redshirted in 2021 before appearing in one game and earning academic All-Big Ten honors in 2022.
