Trei Hough's complete-game shutout led the Pocatello Runnin Rebels to a 3-0 win over the Rocky Mountain Avalanche on Friday in the first round of the Double-A Legion state tournament at Lewis-Clark State College.
Hough struck out nine and walked two from the mound, holding the Avalanche to three hits. The right-hander only faced two runners on base once — with two outs in the second.
Hough was also 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs. He scored Pocatello's first run in the second on Dalton Jones' RBI single, and plated Dylan Jester with a third-inning RBI knock.
The Runnin Rebels scored their final run later in the third, when Jones doubled Hough home. Jones matched Hough with a 2-for-3 day.
The Runnin Rebels (32-17) face the Boise Capitals at 5:30 p.m. MDT on Saturday in the second round of the tournament.
