NIKE BOISE RELAYS

POCATELLO

Pocatello runner Dallin Bird set a meet and personal record in the 3,200-meter race Saturday at the Nike Boise Relays at Dona Larsen Park.

Bird finished the boys elite varsity 3,200 with a first-place time of 9 minutes, 35.17 seconds. Teammate Shane Gard placed second in the boys 800-meter elite varsity race with a time of 1 minute, 56.9 seconds.

Indians hurdler Madi Zink placed first in the girls 100- and 300-meter hurdles in the elite varsity division with times of 15.04 and 45.28 seconds, respectively. 

“They were ready to compete and race,” Pocatello coach Rick Call said of his teams. "They stepped up and did it.”

HIGHLAND

Hallie Austin led Highland with a first-place finish Saturday in the high jump at the Nike Boise Relays at Dona Larsen Park.

Austin recorded a jump of 5 feet, 2 inches in the girls varsity division of the high jump.

Teammates Saydree Bell and Erica Holt placed second and third, respectively, in the girls varsity 100-meter dash with times of 13.28 and 13.31 seconds, respectively. They also helped the girls 4x100-meter relay team to a sixth-place finish in the varsity race with a time of 51.19.

Jared Harden finished with a personal-best time of 4:29.38 in the boys elite varsity 1,600-meter race, where he placed 14th.

“Our day was awesome,” Rams coach Camille Long said. “We had some really good things happen on the track. Our field (athletes) struggled today, but we're making improvements all over the place, so I'm proud of all of them and all the hard work they're doing.”

SHELLEY

Shelley's Ty Wright finished first in the boys high jump at Saturday's Nike Boise Relays at Donna Larson Park.

He finished with a personal-best jump of 6 feet, 10 inches in the elite varsity division of the event.

SHELLEY INVITE

The Preston boys and girls secured the team titles at Saturday’s Shelley Invite. The boys won with 195 points, while the girls tallied 169 points.

Preston’s Kaden Barnard won the boys 200-meter race, Sam Jeppsen won the boys 3,200-meter race and Andrew Iverson won the boys 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Taite Priestley won the boys high jump.

The Indians’ Savannah Royal won the girls long jump and triple jump. Addison Moser finished second in the girls 100, while teammate Taylor Romney was runner-up in the girls 400-meter dash. Riley Ward placed second in the girls 800-meter race.

Blackfoot’s Teegan Thomas was second in the boys 100, while teammate Bracken Morse was runner-up in the boys 200. Blackfoot’s Kristen Thomas won the girls 800, while teammate Eboni Beasley was third in the girls pole vault. The Blackfoot boys and girls finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Shelley’s Karlie Callahan won the girls 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races.

TIM DUNNE INVITE

Highland, Century, Pocatello and Snake River competed Friday at Jerome High’s Tim Dunne Invite.

Century’s Madyson Fouse won the girls 100-meter dash, and teammate Megan Treasure won the girls 400-meter race. Poky’s 4x200-meter relay girls squad took first, while Destiny Harris won the discus and shot put. Snake River’s Abby Morgan was the runner-up in the discus. The Panthers' Morgan Sensenbach placed second in the girls 800-meter race.

Highland’s Ellie Liday placed fourth in the girls 100- and 200-meter races.

The Century girls finished third with 89.5 points, 20 points ahead of fourth-place Highland. Pocatello placed fifth with 57 points, while Snake River placed ninth (36 points). Twin Falls won with 158 points.

Pocatello’s Dallin Bird won the boys 800-meter race, while the Indians’ sprint medley relay boys squad placed first. Century’s De’Qua Lang won the shot put and finished fifth in the discus.

Highland’s Jared Harden was the runner-up in the boys 3,200-meter race. Snake River’s Rylan Anderson was fifth in the boys 400-meter race.

In the boys standings, Century placed fifth with 66.5 points, Poky finished seventh with 32 points while Highland and Snake River tied for 10th with 17 points. Twin Falls won with 146 points.

TENNIS

POCATELLO 3.5, BURLEY 2.5 (BOYS)

POCATELLO 3.5, BURLEY 2.5 (GIRLS)

The Pocatello boys and girls swept Burley on Saturday, with both teams winning 3.5-2.5.

The Indians' Josh Halversen won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 boys singles, and Kyleigh Kowalski won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 girls singles. Poky's Bryce Johnson and Olivia Johnson won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 mixed doubles.

The Pocatello boys (3-2, 3-1 4A District 4-5) and girls (2-3, 2-2 4A District 4-5) play Monday at Minico.

BASEBALL

HIGHLAND VS. CENTURY

Highland’s game Saturday against Century at Halliwell Park was postponed because of inclement weather. No makeup date has been announced.

Highland (8-4, 1-1 5A District 5-6) hosts Madison on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Halliwell Park. Century (2-8, 2-4 4A District 4-5) plays a doubleheader Monday at Wood River.

SOUTH FREMONT 12, AMERICAN FALLS 2 (5)

TETON 14, AMERICAN FALLS 3 (5)

American Falls dropped both games Saturday at Buhl High, losing 12-2 in five innings to South Fremont and 14-3 in five innings to Teton.

South Fremont tallied 15 hits against the Beavers, who struck out 10 times. Garrett Burgemeister and Andy Fernandez had one RBI each in the loss.

The Beavers were held to four hits in their loss to Teton. Gabe Fehringer had two hits for American Falls (1-8), which hosts Soda Springs on Tuesday.

BEAR LAKE 1, FILER 0

Bear Lake used an all-around effort Saturday to beat Filer 1-0 at Kimberly High.

Bear Lake’s Joey James pitched seven innings of three-hit ball. He also struck out nine batters and walked two. The Bears’ lone run came in the first inning after James scored on a wild pitch.

There was no information on the Bears’ other game Saturday at Buhl.

Bear Lake plays a doubleheader April 13 at Sugar-Salem.

ROCKLAND 20, RIMROCK 13

Rockland overcame a 13-4 deficit Saturday to defeat Rimrock 20-13 at home. The Bulldogs' comeback was highlighted by a 14-run fifth inning, helping them take a 20-13 lead.

Rockland pitcher Kaden Woodworth allowed two earned runs and two hits while tallying six strikeouts and two walks in four innings.

“The kids' attitude picked up, their intensity picked up,” Rockland coach Vern Nelson said.

The Bulldogs (1-2) play Wednesday at Soda Springs.
