Century High School senior Zoe Thiros has been named the 2018-19 Gatorade Idaho Volleyball Player of the Year, announced Tuesday.

Thiros, an outside hitter, led the Diamondbacks to a 38-5 record and the 4A state title in October. She racked up 439 kills on a .326 hitting percentage, with 370 digs, 69 blocks and 53 service aces in her final prep season.

Thiros has signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Gonzaga University. She was also a first-team 4A all-state selection, 4A District 4-5 co-Player of the Year, prepvolleyball.com All-American and Under Armour honorable mention All-American in 2018.

“It is an honor to be named Gatorade Player of the Year in a state where there are so many talented girls who I have competed against and alongside ever since I was a freshman,” Thiros told the Journal. “I also want to thank my teammates and coaches for making this possible. Without a state title and without their leadership and support, I would not be Gatorade Player of the Year.”

Thiros is the fourth Century volleyball player to earn Gatorade Player of the Year honors, along with Kayla Ellis (2013-14, 2014-15), Jenna Ellis (2011-12) and Lindsy Lewis (2001-02). The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, according to a Gatorade press release.

Thiros is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year award to be announced later this month.

“Zoe Thiros elevated her game to a different level this year,” Middleton coach Kamille Crawford said in the press release. “She dominates no matter where she is on the court. She’s a force in the front row and the back row. She’s a six-rotation kid who impacts the game tremendously.”
