The 5 stars watch list highlights the top high school football players in the Idaho State Journal’s coverage area. As the season progresses, the list will feature players who are posting notable stat lines and performing impressively on the field. Following the sixth week of the season, the players are ranked in no particular order.

Landon Demuzio, RB, Highland

Demuzio had a breakout game last Friday in Highland’s win at Thunder Ridge. The senior running back carried the ball 11 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns and caught four passes for 40 yards and one touchdown.

The all-around game from Demuzio helped the Rams tally 500 yards of offense and a season-high 51 points. Demuzio scored two rushing touchdowns on his first three carries, including an 80-yard touchdown dash on the first offensive play of the game. All 11 of Demuzio’s carries went for positive yards.

For the season, Demuzio has rushed 55 times for 476 yards and six touchdowns. He also has 31 receptions for 345 yards and four touchdowns.

No. 3 Highland (5-1, 1-0 5A District 5-6) plays Thursday at Holt Arena against Century.

Nate Manning, QB, Century

Manning continued his strong 2018 campaign last Friday in Century’s win over Twin Falls. The quarterback completed 16 of 21 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns. He added six rushes for 27 yards and one TD.

Manning had touchdown passes of 80, 21 and 19 yards and notched a 9-yard touchdown run, his third game this season with four total touchdowns. Friday was also Manning’s fourth consecutive game with at least three passing scores.

For the season, Manning has completed 96 of 148 passes for 1,293 yards, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s added 28 carries for 206 yards and five scores.

Fifth-ranked Century (5-1, 3-0 4A District 4-5 East Pod) plays Thursday at Holt Arena against Highland, the third-ranked squad in 5A.

Kobe Tracy, QB, Highland

Tracy had his quietest game of the season last Friday in a win at Thunder Ridge, completing 12 of 14 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown. The senior quarterback took a backseat to the Rams’ rushing attack, which tallied 367 yards on 39 carries.

Tracy was efficient with his opportunities, accumulating 8.4 yards per attempt, including a 12-yard touchdown pass to Landon Demuzio. Friday’s win was also the first time in three weeks Tracy did not throw an interception.

For the season, Tracy has completed 124 of 174 passes for 1,503 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Third-ranked Highland (5-1, 1-0 5A District 5-6) plays Thursday at Holt Arena against Century.

Enoch Ward, RB, West Side

Ward shined as a rusher in West Side’s home win last Friday against Malad. The senior tied a season high with 12 carries for a season-high 100 yards and two touchdowns while catching one pass for 13 yards and one touchdown.

Ward’s receiving score was the first touchdown of the game, while his rushing scores of 21 and 7 yards came in the third quarter. It was Ward’s third game this season with two rushing touchdowns and his third consecutive games with one receiving TD.

Ward has 56 carries for 416 yards and seven touchdowns and 14 catches for 243 yards and three touchdowns this season.

No. 2 West Side (6-0, 2-0 2A District 5) has a bye week and plays Sept. 12 at Bear Lake.

Payton Campbell, RB/LB, Marsh Valley

Campbell was unstoppable again last Friday in Marsh Valley’s home win against South Fremont. The senior runner carried the ball a season-high 24 times for a career-high 240 yards and four touchdowns. The outing came one week after Campbell ran 17 times for 206 yards and five touchdowns against Bear Lake.

Against South Fremont, Campbell had rushing touchdowns of 98, 21, 9 and 2 yards and added eight tackles on defense. For the season, Campbell has 11 rushing touchdowns of 10 yards or more, including six rushing scores of 40 yards or more.

For the season, Campbell has 97 carries for 958 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also has five catches for 89 yards and two TDs.

Marsh Valley (4-2) plays Friday at Snake River.
