Idaho State sophomore Anna Gardom wrapped up her season Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Regional in Sacramento, California.

Gardom’s best throw on the day was 132 feet, 1 inch. She finished in 43rd place.

Gardom came to ISU as a sprinter and just began throwing javelin earlier this year. This week was the seventh time she has competed in the javelin. She earned her way to the West Regional after winning the Big Sky title with a personal-best throw of 160-4. Gardom is the third Bengal javelin thrower to qualify for the West Regional in the last eight years. The other qualifiers were Bailey Bars in 2016 and Cassie Merkley in 2010.

“We always knew she was a hard worker and a positive influence in the groups she trained in and we knew she was good for the team,” ISU coach Hillary Merkley said. “When we made a transition to throws with her she caught on quick and to see her growth has been fun.”

Sophomore Tanner Conner also qualified for the West Regional and will compete in the 110-meter hurdles Friday.
