Yellowstone National Park has confirmed that a 65-year-old man was injured by a bison on Friday evening at Bridge Bay Campground near Lake Yellowstone.

"Park emergency medical personnel responded and transported him to a nearby hospital," the park stated in a Sunday email to the Idaho State Journal.

Video of the incident circulated widely after the online news outlet Cowboy State Daily interviewed a bystander who filmed it.

According to Cowboy State Daily's reporting, a bull bison charged a group of children photographing it from a distance at the campground before turning its attention toward a passing pickup truck. The bison then charged the man and a younger companion, who had moved behind trees near the road after the animal appeared to calm down and lie in the dirt. The bison then hooked the man with its horn and tossed him into the air before bystanders shouted and moved toward the animal, driving it away, Cowboy State Daily reported.

Beyond confirming the man's age, the date and that he was transported to a hospital, Yellowstone National Park has not released additional details, including his identity, the extent of his injuries or his current condition.

This is at least the second recent bison-related attack in Yellowstone. In June, a 12-year-old was reportedly injured by a bison near Mud Volcano, north of Fishing Bridge.
