POCATELLO - At least five people were involved in a vicious fight Thursday on Pocatello's west side shortly after 2 p.m. that resulted in injuries, including facial wounds and a broken hand.
Both sides claim the other pulled a knife during the afternoon brouhaha, though no weapons were found and no one was arrested. Police said neither side was interested in signing a complaint, but the incident remains under investigation.
"You can't just have people out here fighting and stirring things up," said Pocatello Police Officer Jake Schubert.
Both sides gave officers and the Journal completely different stories about how the fight erupted and who was at fault. Schubert said the brawl appears to have begun after a verbal spat.
"Words were exchanged and that's how the fight broke out," Schubert said. "It started with two people and it spread. Friends and relatives were called in to (help)."
Marilyn Leones said she and her twin sister, Marlene Flores, were dropping off Halloween cakes to a friend at the Casa Del Rio Apartments at 723 W. Lewis St. when she was attacked by James Cain in a stairwell.
