Officials want to know what caused trailer to fishtail

    Idaho State Police are still investigating the cause of a fatal accident involving three vehicles in northeastern Caribou County late Sunday afternoon.

    Police said Monday that they are still trying to determine what caused a trailer to fishtail and then strike an oncoming motorcycle and car on State Highway 34, roughly six miles from the Wyoming border. They are also still trying to decide if any charges should be filed.

    The accident, which occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m., resulted in the death of husband and wife Troy and Jerusha Twiss, both 44-year-old residents of Preston. Delbert Suter, 26, and Stacia Suter, 23, both of Bedford, Wyo., were also injured in the incident, but were transported to Star Valley Medical Center in Afton, Wyo., where they were treated and released; the couple’s infant, who had also been in the car, wasn’t hurt.

    Police said Utah resident Braxton Carter, 21, was driving west on the highway in a 2004 Ford F-250, pulling a trailer carrying a 2008 Malibu Wakesetter boat, when the trailer started fishtailing. The trailer struck an eastbound 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Troy Twiss, and

then hit an eastbound 2012 Ford Focus, driven by Delbert Suter.

    Neither Carter nor his passenger, Utah resident Madison Jorgensen, 20, were injured in the incident, police said.

    Troy Twiss was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, and Jerusha Twiss was transported by ground ambulance to Star Valley Medical Center, but both died as a result of their injuries, police said. The Suters were transported by ground ambulance to the latter hospital as well.

    Police said all of those riding in the truck and car were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred, and the Twiss’ were both wearing helmets.

    The crash closed the highway for roughly two hours on Sunday, and one lane was closed for 90 minutes after that.
