POCATELLO - In a laboratory filled with gadgets and meters, Harvey Richardson and his classmates were busy testing and assembling components for what will in essence be a pint-sized, working power plant.

At age 50, Richardson has retired from his first career with the U.S. Navy, and he subsequently worked in material handling for a decade at Ballard Medical before the local plant closed and moved to Mexico in 2006.
