POCATELLO — Police confirmed Tuesday that they had indeed collected a .38-caliber handgun from the Jefferson Avenue home where Nettie Adair died.

    Police said they don’t know who owned the gun and continued to stress in their news release Tuesday that they had “no suspects or persons of interest” in Adair’s death, which has not yet been classified as a crime or accident.

    The Journal has learned that two men with ties to Adair have been arrested but not on charges related to her death.

    Shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday Pocatello police were called to 544 Jefferson Ave., where they discovered the 28-year-old Adair unconscious and bleeding from the head outside the home. She had been shot in the head and was transported by ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

    Also at the Jefferson Avenue home Sunday morning were two men who police say they interviewed. The Journal has learned that one of those men was arrested because he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant unrelated to Adair’s death. The second man at the home was interviewed and released. A third man with ties to Adair was arrested later, also on an unrelated outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

    Police would not confirm the information obtained by the Journal about the two men being arrested, nor would police confirm whether the handgun found at the home was used to kill Adair.

    Police Lt. Paul Manning said that investigators are working with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine ownership of the handgun. Although Idaho law requires registration of a firearm when purchased from a dealer, when they are sold from one individual to another no update of that registration is required, so determining who the handgun belonged to could be difficult.
