Pocatello and the rest of Idaho received national recognition during “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Monday night for the large “No Kings” protests held this past weekend throughout the state.

The Gate City and Gem State mention was made by Colbert during his opening monologue regarding Saturday’s massive “No Kings” pro-democracy, anti-Trump administration rallies held across the U.S.

“On Saturday, 7 million people turned out in over 2,700 events in all 50 states,” Colbert said about the nationwide “No Kings” protests. “There were absolutely massive crowds in Chicago, Illinois, in Los Angeles, Boston, Atlanta, Minneapolis and right here in New York.”

Colbert then listed several red state cities that played host to large “No Kings” protests on Saturday, singling out Pocatello.

Colbert sarcastically said, “Of course the far left loons were out and proud in all the bastions of liberal anarchy — Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Sarasota, Florida; Plano, Texas; Mount Vernon, Iowa; Leesburg, Virginia; and Pocatello, Idaho. People in Idaho turned out on Saturday to tell Trump, ‘No, U-Daho.’”

Pocatello’s “No Kings” rally on Saturday, attended by approximately 2,000 people, was possibly the largest protest in the city’s history.

The rally started at Caldwell Park and the protesters then marched to the nearby Bannock County Courthouse where they lined the sidewalks chanting and waving signs.

The “No Kings” protests held in Pocatello and other Idaho cities were peaceful with no major incidents reported.
