LATEST IDAHO YESTERDAYS JOURNAL LOOKS AT FOLKLORE

The Spring/Summer 2008 edition of Idaho Yesterdays, titled "Telling

Truthful Tales," is now available. The issue takes a broad look at

Idaho's folk traditions, represented by legends, tall tales, festivals

and customs. Idaho Yesterdays is the journal of the Idaho State

Historical Society.

This issue includes a look at how rhetorical strategies are used to

give credence to tall tales, an analysis of stories of gnats and feral

pigs as expressions of regional values, an article on how festivals

strengthen local communities, a photo essay of Bear Lake buildings and

work traditions and an essay on the early winter traditions of the

Spirit Lake community. Sprinkled throughout the publication are images

of Idaho legends and tall tale, including original illustrations by

award-winning Boise State art professor Bill Carman.
