MCCAMMON — The owners of the Armstrong-Zita Farm in McCammon are the proud recipients of the Idaho Century Farm Award, which recognizes them for a century of dedication to agriculture, community and heritage.
According to a news release from Idaho State Historical Society, the Armstrong-Zita Farm is owned by Nancy Armstrong, E.J. Zita and their family. They were presented with a Century Farm certificate by Jim Johnston of the Idaho State Historical Society Board of Trustees.
The certificate was signed by Gov. Brad Little, Idaho State Historical Society Executive Director Janet L. Gallimore and Idaho Department of Agriculture Director Chanel Tewalt. The family was also given a commemorative Century Farm sign.
The news release said the Armstrong-Zita Farm was originally established back in 1897 by Ada and Dudley Armstrong, who are Nancy Armstrong’s grandparents. Dudley moved to the area from Virginia, and Ada came later with their children. They acquired the land with the intention of using it to grow crops. The family lived in a small structure that’s still on the property to this day.
Nancy Armstrong’s parents, Nolan and Bernice Armstrong, took over the farm in 1939. They ran it until 2001.
The farm is a testament to resilience and the spirit of the family that owns it. Their journey from when the farm was first established to now reflects a rich history of dedication to agriculture and community.
