Hey, folks, are you tired of all the discouraging news we have been hearing lately? Are you looking for a fun way to break in the New Year 2018? Well, the staff at Massacre Rocks State Park has just the event for you coming up Jan. 6. The annual New Year’s Bonfire will take place at the park from 5:30 to 8 p.m. across the road from the Register Rock Picnic Area — just look for the enormous pile of old Christmas Trees.

Admission into the event will be two non-perishable food items per person; food items collected will be donated to the local food bank for use during the coming months. Massacre Rocks State Park is located off of Interstate 86 at exit 28, 10 miles west of the city of American Falls; follow the signs to Register Rock to find the activities.

The park will take care of your discarded Christmas tree by providing a tree disposal site at the lot across the street from the Power County Press in American Falls. Now through Jan. 5, a Massacre Rocks State Park dump truck will be parked in the parking area across the street from the Power County Community Center for folks to drop off their trees. If you would rather experience the joy of throwing your very own Christmas tree into the fire, bring it along with you to the bonfire Jan. 6.

This annual event will follow the same format as last year’s bonfire; we will light the pile after dark, starting at 5:30pm. Event sponsors will provide free hot dogs, chili and hot chocolate for all participants to enjoy. As a special treat, Falls Brand Independent Meat has donated foot-long hotdogs for this year’s event, we will cut most in half for those that would rather have a smaller dog, but we will have the foot-longs for the big eaters. Sponsors of this year’s event include: Ken’s Food Market, Falls Brand Independent Meats and Massacre Rocks State Park.
