WAYAN — A man made a 911 call at 8:06 a.m. Wednesday shortly after shooting his wife along Jack Knife Creek Road in southeast Bonneville County near Wayan and less then a mile away from the Wyoming border, authorities say.

The man identified himself as 43-year-old Christopher R. Moon and indicated he had a gun and was going to take his own life, said Sgt. Bryan Lovell, Bonneville County Sheriff’s spokesman.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located two vehicles parked on the side of the road that belonged to Christopher and his wife, Cassandra J. Moon, 23, Lovell said. Both Christopher and Cassandra were listed as residents of Afton, Wyo.

Deputies established brief contact with Christopher over the phone and attempted to convince him to surrender peacefully, Lovell said. Moments later Christopher was observed using his own gun to take his life.

Law enforcement than approached the vehicles and found both Christopher and Cassandra deceased from apparent gunshot wounds, Lovell said.

There were no other people on the scene and no other injuries. Deputies spent several hours collecting evidence from the scene and are continuing to investigate.

The BCSO SWAT Team also responded to the area along with the Lincoln County (Wyo.) Sheriff’s Office and Star Valley (Wyo.) Ambulance.
