FORT HALL — Several local fire departments are battling a wildfire that has caused evacuations and destroyed multiple structures on the Fort Hall Reservation.

The blaze was reported around 3 p.m. Friday along Hawthorne Road between Cemetery and Edmo roads.

Authorities report that the fire destroyed multiple structures before spreading into a grass field, where it has scorched numerous acres. Fire officials have not yet said what type of structures were destroyed or provided an estimation on the acres burned, though the fire is believed to be large and growing.

Firefighters from the Fort Hall, North Bannock, Pocatello, Blackfoot and Chubbuck fire departments responded to the fire and are trying to contain the flames and protect nearby homes.

Multiple homes in the Hawthorne Road area have been evacuated because of the fire.

The public is being told to stay away from the fire scene until further notice.

Authorities have not said whether the fire has caused any injuries and they have not commented on what could have caused the blaze.
