POCATELLO - A reception is planned today at 4 p.m. at Pocatello City Hall, 911 N. Seventh Ave., to introduce the display of a new addition to the council chambers - a portrait of Chief Pocatello by local artist Tal Sampson. He has been working with city of Pocatello representatives and several other people to make this portrait a reality. Now citizens can see the artist's rendition of Chief Pocatello, for whom the city was named.

Sampson was commissioned by the city of Pocatello to paint Chief Pocatello's portrait. Because there is no known picture of the chief, Sampson based his portrait on consultations with Chief Pocatello's descendants, and several of the descendants will be present at the reception Friday wearing traditional attire.

Chief Pocatello was selected as the posthumous grand marshal of the 45th annual Shoshone-Bannock Indian Festival parade.
