    Oct. 22, 1988: Parents and teachers alike turned out in force at the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District board meeting to defend keeping the position of district music director so that Joe Willis’s job can be saved. The board, led by Chairman Ann Finlayson, took the matter under advisement.    

    50 years ago

    Oct. 22, 1963: At least 1,000 Pocatellans may get a visit from the police department. Chief John D. Perkins said special officers are canvassing the city and will issue citations to people who have unlicensed dogs. The fine is $5. Police estimate there are about 3,000 dogs in the city.    

    100 years ago

    Oct. 22, 1913: While eating preserves, Miss Edith Gamut was unfortunate enough to get a piece of glass in her throat. She was taken to the hospital, where relief was effected. She has returned to her home in Pocatello, living with her sister, Mrs. Fish, near the pump house.

    Oct. 22, 1963: President Kennedy assured the world that the United States “will continue to follow a national policy of self-restraint in the use of restrictions” with its trading partners. Kennedy said as much in his annual report to Congress.
