Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival is returning to Cache Valley Feb. 5-6. This year the festival is celebrating its 50th year of featuring stories of adventure and exploration from around the world.

The screening will take place at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5 and 6, at the Ellen Eccles Theatre. Each night will feature different films showcasing people’s experiences in the world’s wild places.

Tickets cost $24 for a single night or $40 for both nights. Utah State University students may purchase tickets for $18 for a single night. Military and first responders get a 10 percent discount, according to Utah State TODAY.

Started in 1976, the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival has been a leader in celebrating mountain culture and “promoting understanding and appreciation of the world’s mountain places.”

USU Outdoor Programs is hosting the screening. All profits from ticket sales will go toward the Lyon, Maas, Mueggler Outdoor Leadership Scholarship, which pays 50 percent of a student’s tuition for the Desert Mountain Medicine Wilderness First Responder certification course.

The scholarship is named for Max Lyon, Keith Maas and Karl Mueggler, who died in an avalanche up Logan Dry Canyon on Jan. 12, 1997.
