A 29-year-old man was recently arrested after police say he molested a 12-year-old girl.

Bradley Jaxom Jorgensen, of Murray, Utah, has been charged with three counts of lewd conduct following a Pocatello police investigation launched in July, according to police and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

The investigation unfolded on July 8 when the child’s mother reported Jorgensen inappropriately touched the girl on two separate occasions on both July 7 and July 8, police said.

The first incident occurred at a Pocatello home and the second occurred during a paddleboarding trip at a nearby reservoir, according to reports.

The child also reported similar incidents occurring multiple times approximately four years prior when she lived in Utah, police said.

The girl participated in a forensic interview at a local child advocacy center on July 9, during which she disclosed the abuse again, the report says

Officers collected evidence during the investigation, including clothing and DNA samples, police said.

The report says officers arranged text message conversations between the child and Jorgensen and that he admitted to inappropriate touching during the paddleboarding trip and at the Pocatello residence.

In the text messages, Jorgensen stated he “was being weak by not restraining myself” and apologized for his actions, calling them a “sexual act that should have never been made,” police said.

The case was sent to the Bannock County Prosecutor’s office for review on Aug. 26. Charges and a warrant for his arrest were issued on Oct. 1, court records show.

Jorgensen was arrested by Utah police and extradited to the Bannock County Jail on Oct. 22.

He appeared before 6th District Magistrate Judge Adam Strong for an arraignment hearing on Oct. 23, where his bond was set at $400,000.

Jorgensen is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 5 for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors will attempt to present sufficient evidence to elevate the case from magistrate to district court for trial.

If convicted of any of the three felony lewd conduct charges, Jorgensen faces a potential sentence of up to life in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
