CHUBBUCK — A 34-year-old Chubbuck man was arrested last week after police say he choked a woman and caused traumatic injuries during a domestic disturbance at a local residence.

Manuel Anthony Camacho, of Chubbuck, has been charged with felony attempted strangulation and felony domestic violence battery causing traumatic injury, according to police and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of May 17, 2026, after Chubbuck police received a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived to find a woman sitting on the sidewalk outside the residence, police said.

Officers spoke with the woman, who described a situation that began with a verbal argument and escalated into a physical, altercation, police said.

The woman told officers the incident involved Camacho grabbing her by the shoulders and pushing her onto the bed, the report says. She said she tried to push him off of her but he placed his left hand on her neck, his right hand on her shoulder and took her from the bed to the ground, according to court records.

The woman told officers she immediately feared for her life and struggled to breathe during the incident, which she estimated lasted around five minutes, police said. She said she eventually freed herself and ran to another part of the home, where she hid until she heard Camacho on the phone with 911 and ran outside, according to the police report.

Officers noted the woman complained of head pain and memory issues during the interview and would regularly take breaks from the conversation. She reported pain in her throat when swallowing and had visible bruises on her chest, police said. Officers photographed the bruises and injuries to her neck and eyes, court records show.

Officers spoke with Camacho at the scene, where he appeared extremely intoxicated — unable to stand straight, struggling to keep his eyes open and slow, slurred speech, police said. He told officers the woman had hit him, but officers observed no marks on him consistent with that claim, according to the police report.

Officers subsequently arrested Camacho and transported him to the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello.

Camacho appeared before 6th District Magistrate Judge David A. Hooste for an arraignment hearing May 18 where his bond was set at $5,000 and a no-contact order was issued between him and the victim. Court records show prosecutors requested a $75,000 bond. Camacho posted the bond May 19 and was released from jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 1 for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors will attempt to present sufficient evidence to elevate the case from magistrate to district court for trial.

If convicted of attempted strangulation, Camacho faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. The felony domestic violence resulting in traumatic injury charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
