An armed and dangerous fugitive has been arrested in Pocatello after bolting from an Idaho Department of Correction work camp in St. Anthony and then reportedly stealing a firearm and attempting to carjack a vehicle in Idaho Falls.

Kevin Kuintzle, age 33, was arrested by Pocatello police and Idaho State Police after a short foot pursuit in south Pocatello on Friday night, authorities said.

Kuintzle has a pending first-degree murder case in Jerome County and has convictions for grand theft in Ada County and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent in Canyon County, IDOC said.

He took off from IDOC's St. Anthony work camp on Thursday night. Idaho Falls police reported that he then stole a gun and attempted to carjack a vehicle in Idaho Falls on Friday afternoon.

Authorities asked the public to be on the lookout for Kuintzle and to call 911 if he was spotted. Police told local residents to not approach him under any circumstances.

Kuintzle was spotted by Pocatello police and Idaho State Police outside of the Common Cents convenience store on the 3900 block of South Fifth Avenue on Friday night.

When officers tried to make contact with him, he reportedly took off running. A short foot pursuit ensued before police took him into custody without further incident.
