POCATELLO - The last of three defendants involved in a scheme to befriend and then rob migrant workers was sentenced Monday to conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of methamphetamine.

Christine Evans, 28, was handed down a two-year fixed, three-year indeterminate sentence by Sixth District Judge David C. Nye. Nye suspended the sentence and placed Evans on probation for five years.

Evans, along with Jenny Flores, 24, befriended the workers, gaining their trust and waiting until the workers cashed their paychecks. The women then lured the men to an east side Pocatello location, where Nathan Pufall, 25, appeared with a rifle and robbed the victims of their money.

"I'm really sorry for my part in this," Evans said.

Bannock County Prosecutor Mark Hiedeman agreed with the presentence investigation's recommendation of probation for Evans.

"It appears she was the least culpable in this crime," he said. "Hopefully, she's learned her lesson."

Pufall was sentenced on Dec. 1 before Sixth District Judge Peter D. McDermott to a five-year fixed, 10-year indeterminate sentence. Flores pleaded guilty and was sentenced last week to a two-year fixed, three-year indeterminate sentence. The sentence was suspended and Flores was placed on probation.

"I do believe this is an appropriate case for probation," Nye said.

Nye ordered Evans to enroll in an in-house drug and alcohol treatment program at the Bannock County Jail or a similar private treatment. He also made her jointly and severally liable for $2,600 in restitution with her co-conspirators.
