POCATELLO - School District 25 will have about $368,000 less to help mentally disabled students for the 2009-2010 academic year because, according to the state, the district identified an excessive number of American Indians for special education.
The State Department of Education has ordered the district to instead use the money for a tiered intervention system to prevent American Indian students with cultural, economic and social differences from being inappropriately identified as disabled.
