POCATELLO - A Soda Springs teen pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and DUI charges stemming from a July 25, 2008 accident which resulted in the death of his stepbrother.

Levi Darin Lish, 19, was behind the wheel of a 1992 Ford Ranger driving south on Old Highway 91 near the Inkom Port of Entry when he passed a van on the left that was making a left turn, according to an investigative report. Lish's vehicle went off the left shoulder and Lish then overcorrected, causing his vehicle to leave the right-hand shoulder and roll, ejecting him and Mason Collins, 17, of Pocatello. Collins died from his injuries.

Sixth District Judge Stephen S. Dunn quizzed Lish before accepting his guilty plea, asking him how the accident occurred.

"I got in a car accident," Lish said. "I don't remember too much of it, really."

Lish, who admitted he had been drinking that day, said his recollection was that the other car had cut him off. Dunn referenced the law enforcement report which indicated the other car was signaling to make a turn when Lish drove around it. Lish refuted that finding.

"The other car's blinker wasn't on," Lish said.

Dunn accepted Lish's guilty pleas and remanded the case to Magistrate Robert C. Naftz for sentencing.
