POCATELLO - Fall enrollment at all of Idaho State University's campuses is 6.6 percent higher than it was at this time last year, according to figures released Friday.

ISU's 10th-day enrollment figures, which adjust the headcount taken during the first week of class, reveal the university has 13,493 students - up from the fall 2008 figure of 12,653.

Enrollment at the Pocatello main campus, however, fell by a reported 1.9 percent.

The 10th-day numbers, used by the State Board of Education as the official headcount for the semester, mark increased enrollment at ISU for the third consecutive semester.

Increased enrollment at ISU's Idaho Falls and Meridian campuses contributed to the university's larger student population this fall. Enrollment increased by nearly 9 percent at the Idaho Falls campus and by 51.7 at the Meridian campus.

Friday's figures show ISU reported the largest enrollment increase of all three major state universities. Boise State University reportedly suffered a 3.7 decrease in enrollment.

ISU Provost Gary Olson said the University of Idaho's enrollment figures increased by less than 2 percent.

While explaining that 10th-day numbers do not include students who register later in the semester or students taking part in the Early College Program, Olson said ISU's enrollment could even be higher.

"The number you see now is going to be higher by the end of the semester," he said.

For instance, in 2008, fall enrollment rose from a 10th day number of 12,653 to 14,520 by the end of the semester, according to a press release from ISU.
