POCATELLO - A former Idaho State University softball coach charged with embezzling $26,000 from his department made his first appearance in court Wednesday.

Larry Stocking, an Idaho State University graduate and past softball coach for Rick's College, was charged with grand theft last month.

A preliminary trial was set for March 4, in the case.

Stocking faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, as well as restitution.

He was placed on administrative leave Sept. 17, when administrators found indications he had inappropriately spent team funds. He resigned four days later.
