Bingham County's incumbents retained their seats in Tuesday's primary election, winning their races by large margins despite some strong challengers.

Sheriff Dave Johnson won the GOP primary, earning 46 percent of the vote over challengers Dayle Holm (36 percent) and Roger Clark (18 percent).

Prosecutor J. Scott Andrew easily defeated challenger Cindy Campbell in the Republican primary. Andrew received 58 percent of the vote to Campbell's 42 percent.

Incumbent county commissioner Cleone Jolley also cruised to easy victory, defeating challenger Robert Butler in the GOP primary. Jolley received 61 percent of the vote to Butler's 39 percent in the District 1 race.

In the county commission District 2 GOP primary, nine candidates ran for the seat being vacated by commission chairman Wayne Browner, who decided not to run for re-election.

In that race, Donavan Harrington won with only 20 percent of the vote.

There were no Democratic candidates in Tuesday's Bingham County primary.

Bingham County voters also approved $200,000 in tax funding for the county's ambulance district. The vote was 58 percent in favor and 42 percent against.

Bingham County's primary results were not in until well past midnight, preventing them from being printed in the Idaho State Journal's Wednesday edition.
