Small Chlorine Leak at Reed Gym
Discovered, Taken Care Of
Pocatello - A small chlorine leak found early this morning on Feb. 24 in a mechanical room located below the Idaho State University Reed Gymnasium Swimming Pool has been cleaned up.
Reed Gymnasium remained open throughout this incident.
"It was a small leak that was handled conservatively so no one would risk injury," said Richard Brey, ISU technical safety coordinator. "As it turned out, it wasn't a threat."
An ISU Campus Recreation employee discovered the leak in the Reed Gym swim pool's chlorine disinfectant system and turned the valve off that feeds chlorine into the system.
Following routine procedures, ISU Public Safety was contacted and an officer was sent to the scene. In turn, ISU Public Safety notified the Pocatello Fire Department and the ISU Technical Safety Department. ISU maintenance people familiar with the system were called to the scene.
The Pocatello Fire Department neutralized the spill and the room was allowed to air out and then was cleaned by ISU technicians.
