ARIMO - The Marsh Valley girls' basketball team opened its 3A Fifth District schedule with a 49-41 victory over Bear Lake on Friday.

The Eagles jumped ahead 24-9 in the first half before holding off the Bears' third-quarter charge.

"It gets us of to a good beginning. That's always positive," said Marsh Valley coach Kyle McQuivey. "We've got a few things to improve on, but besides that, we're looking pretty good right now."

Abby Williams scored 13 points for the Eagles (7-6, 1-0 3A Fifth District), while Sarah Viehwig and Molly Skinner each pitched in nine points. Trezlyn Bartschi led the Bears (4-10, 0-1) with 14 points.

Marsh Valley will be back in action Wednesday when it travels to West Side.
