MONTPELIER - Malad's Caleb Bennett didn't have a carry in the second half. He'd done all that was necessary in the first 24 minutes.
Bennett rushed for 325 yards and five touchdowns in the first half and the Dragons destroyed Bear Lake on the road.
"Caleb was incredible tonight," Malad coach McKay Young said. "On his 79-yard run, he broke a ton of tackles. He's a good kid who does the right things, and I was happy to see him succeed tonight."
The Dragons led the Bears at halftime by a score of 47-0. The last time Malad had a big halftime lead, against Firth, the power went out and ended the game early. This time, the lights stayed on and Young was able to give his backups some much-needed experience.
"It's nice to have things go right and the lights stay on," Young said. "We've waited a long time to have a night end happy, and it comes at the right time going into districts. Hopefully, we can carry that into Soda next week."
