ROCKLAND - A blocked shot at the buzzer preserved 2A Malad's 33-32 win over 1A Rockland on Friday.

The Bulldogs had the last shot and found Whitney Woodworth under the basket for a potential game-winning layup off an inbounds play, but a Dragon came over to make the block.

"It was a fun game. I think we exhibited some rust," said Rockland coach Vern Nelson. "We hadn't played since the 20th of December, and it took a little while to get going.

At halftime, Malad led 15-14, and the game didn't open up much more in the second half.

Nine players scored for the Dragons (2-11, 0-3 2A Fifth District), with nobody scoring more than five points. Woodworth scored 11 to pace the Cowboys (6-7, 0-1 1A Division II Rocky Mountain Conference).

North Gem returns to conference play today when it makes the long trip to Leadore.

"Hopefully we shook a little rust out tonight," Nelson said, "and we can get our legs under us up there tomorrow."
