MACKAY - Poor shooting and costly turnovers doomed the North Gem boys in their 1A Division II Rocky Mountain Conference opener Friday at Mackay.

The Miners prevailed 47-44, as the Cowboys made only 14-of-61 shots.

"We had a shot chart that a coach dreams off," said North Gem coach Ken Christensen. "It was full of shots close in. We just couldn't make 'em."

Austin Wuttke led the Cowboys with 14 points, and Taylor Starks also finished in double digits with 10 points.

North Gem (2-7, 0-1) will continue conference play tonight when Clark County visits Bancroft.
