BANCROFT - North Gem matched North Fremont basket for basket throughout most of its 51-37 home loss Saturday, but it let up for a one-minute span in the second quarter, and that proved the difference in the game.

North Fremont drained two straight 3-pointers and then turned a North Gem turnover into a fast-break layup. That 8-0 run helped North Fremont take a 30-20 lead into halftime, and North Gem never got close again.

"We were right there aside for that one run," North Gem coach Ken Christensen said.

Senior Chynna Holbrook paced the Cowboys with seven points and 16 rebounds, while fellow senior Tiffany Crossley chipped in six points and eight rebounds.

North Gem (6-5, 2-0 1A Fifth District) next hosts Sho-Ban on Thursday.
