POCATELLO — Join the Sons of Utah Pioneers (Portneuf Pioneer Chapter) for a presentation on the "Pioneer Value of Unyielding Determination" May 28 at the Caldwell Park LDS Church Building, 135 S. 7th Ave. in Pocatello.

There will be a potluck dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a program featuring Wally Britenstein.

Britenstein is the 2026 president of the National Society of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. After graduating from high school, Britenstein joined the U.S. Air Force and served four years in Europe. When he left the military, Britenstein joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Taiwan.

Britenstein is a Brigham Young University graduate, majoring in Russian and Chinese with a Master's in computer science. He worked at Eyring Research Institute and Novell.

He also served in the Utah National Guard for many years, including a deployment to Iraq. After retirement, Britenstein became active in the Kiwanis Club and Sons of Utah Pioneers. In 2011, Britenstein was president of the BYU Chapter of the SUP and directed the SUP National Encampment in 2012.

He is currently married to Judith Olding, and together they have 11 children.

Britenstein seeks to pass on SUP values.
