POCATELLO — An elderly man died Thursday night after suffering a medical emergency while watching his grandson playing in a high school football game in Pocatello.
The man collapsed during the junior varsity game between Highland and Thunder Ridge at Highland High School Stadium. The man was transported via Pocatello Fire Department ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center where he later died, authorities said.
School District 25 issued the following statement about the death: “At (Thursday) night’s JV football game, a grandparent in attendance lost consciousness and was unable to be revived after strenuous efforts by a local physician, training staff, and first responders. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and District and Highland administrators, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the HHS student athlete who lost their loved one. We appreciate the efforts of everyone impacted by this incident and ask the community to respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time.”
The elderly man’s name hasn’t been released.
