BLACKFOOT — The sight of a full-size semi truck rolling into Blackfoot Tuesday morning brought excitement and gratitude to volunteers and community leaders gathered at the newly expanded Blackfoot Outreach Center.
As part of the nationwide America250 initiative, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with JustServe, is delivering more than 250 semi-truckloads of food and essential supplies to communities across the United States in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Blackfoot was selected as one of the communities to receive a delivery.
This week, volunteers unloaded 26 pallets — approximately 36,000 pounds — of food that will support not only the Blackfoot Food Pantry, which distributes more than 200 free food boxes each week, but also other local pantries and nonprofit organizations serving families throughout Bingham County and surrounding areas.
At a time when many families continue to feel the impact of rising food costs, local leaders say the donation will make a meaningful difference throughout the community and are excited to share the donation with other organizations.
“The moment the semi rolled into Blackfoot was incredibly moving,” said Katie Harris, Blackfoot Area communication director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “You could immediately see that this was bigger than a food delivery. It was community organizations, volunteers and neighbors coming together to help care for people in our area.”
The timing of the delivery was especially meaningful as the expanded Blackfoot Outreach Center was fully prepared to receive and distribute a donation of this size.
Local leaders say the effort reflects the spirit of JustServe — bringing people of all backgrounds together to strengthen communities through service and care for others.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity behind this effort,” said Chris Capson, warehouse director. “This food will bless not only the pantry, but many other organizations and families throughout our region. It’s a reminder of what can happen when people work together to help their neighbors.”
Community Dinner Table and local volunteers will now coordinate distribution efforts throughout Bingham County. Organizations in Bingham County interested in sharing in the donation or learning more about available resources are encouraged to contact The Blackfoot Community Pantry.
