ARIMO — A 20-year-old local man died as the result of injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash near Arimo on Sunday, authorities said.

The Bannock County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Cort Ryan Newlin, of Arimo, in a Monday news release.

“My deepest condolences to the family and friends of this young man. I am holding you all in my heart as you navigate this difficult time,” said Coroner Torey Danner.

The crash occurred at 9:44 p.m. Sunday on West Arimo Road at Garden Creek Gap west of Arimo, Idaho State Police said.

Authorities Newlin died in the crash when the eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Impala he was a passenger in left the road, flipped and ended up in an adjacent creek.

A 21-year-old man from Chubbuck was driving the vehicle, state police said. He was transported via private vehicle to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash, authorities said. No updates on his condition have been released.

State police said Newlin was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

A news release sent by state police about the crash did not say whether the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash shut down West Arimo Road for about six hours.

The wreck remains under investigation by state police.
