As the semester at Idaho State University begins to wind down over the next few weeks, there are several award-winning movies coming up at the Bengal Theater.

Oscar winner “American Fiction” plays this Sunday at 4 and 7 p.m. in the Bengal Theater. Nominated for best picture and best actor, the movie stars Jeffrey Wright in a story about a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment that profits from Black entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, he uses a pen name to write an outlandish Black book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain. “Timely and sharp and subversively funny,” writes the Chicago Sun-Times, “Wright delivers a richly layered performance that reminds us he’s one of the best actors of his generation.” Admission is $3 for the public, $2 for ISU staff and free for ISU students with a valid Bengal ID. Then “Bob Marley: One Love” plays April 11-13 at 7 p.m. in the Bengal Theater with a 4 p.m. matinee Saturday. This biographical story explores the life of Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley who overcomes adversity to become the most famous reggae musician in the world. “The Book of Clarence” plays April 14 at 4 and 7 p.m. in the Bengal Theater. A down-on-his-luck man struggles to find a better life for his family, and captivated by the power and glory of the Messiah, he plans a con to gain similar attention and riches but ultimately realizes that the redemptive power of faith may be his only way out. “The results are entertaining, sometimes riotously so,” writes the Washington Post while the San Francisco Chronicle says, “Lord is it fun, in a way church and Hollywood’s biblical epics almost never are.” Admission is $3 for the public, $2 for ISU staff and free for ISU students with Bengal ID.

It’s a double feature at the Bengal Theater on April 21, featuring the acclaimed French version of the “Three Musketeers.” First there will be an encore showing of “Three Musketeers Part 1: D’Artagnan” at 1:30 p.m. in the Bengal Theater, followed by “Three Musketeers Part 2: Milady” showing at 4 and 7 p.m. The famed story, based on the classic novels by Alexandre Dumas, tells the story of the fourth musketeer D’Artagnan as he finds himself in a conspiracy to overthrow the crown and must join the famed swordsmen to try and save the country from a sinister plot. “Good, galloping fun,” writes the Los Angeles Times while Empire Magazine calls it, “An epic adaptation worthy of its scope, rendered in delicious French by its dangerously sexy cast.” Winner of The Guardian’s Best Films award. Best picture Oscar nominee “Killers of the Flower Moon” plays April 25 to 27 at 6 p.m. in the Bengal Theater, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday also. Real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal as Mollie Burkhart, a member of the Osage Nation, tries to save her community from a spree of murders fueled by oil and greed. And it’s a free movie day with the environmental documentary “Common Ground” showing April 28 at 4 and 7 p.m. in the Bengal Theater. All are welcome to attend this story about sustainable farming that explores how many of the problems in the world connect to the state of the world’s soil. Independent farmers, implementing historic Indigenous techniques, demonstrate how changing agricultural practices could potentially save the world.
