Here’s hoping you didn’t miss it. To be fair, however, there’s no real way any one sports fan could have been everywhere all winter, no matter how much they bleed (enter color of blood here).
So just in case you missed it (#ICYMI), here’s a Cliffs Notes look-back at the winter seasons for Bingham County’s winter sports seasons.
BlackfootStarting with the 5As, all three winter sports teams at The Foot were above average in victory, and above average in defeat.
The Blackfoot boys wrestling team finished just behind Middleton and just ahead of Lakeland in a state championship logjam that left them in fourth place with 157 points. Seven of the 20 Broncos who qualified for the state field ended up on the medal stand, including Boone Bowman who placed first at 144, and Ty Adams who took silver at 144 and stood next to Bowman on the medal stand.
The Blackfoot girls team put seven wrestlers in the state tournament, with junior standout Keanna Conrad coming out on top at 135 — her third state championship in as many tries. The Broncos placed 17th in a 74-team field.
The Blackfoot girls basketball team blasted through the High Country Conference season with a 10-0 mark and entered the state tournament on a 10-game winning streak.
The Broncos were too skilled to be labeled with the backhanded “scrappy” compliment, drubbing teams up and down the state talent ladder before dropping their semifinal game against Sandpoint at the Idaho Center.
The Broncos closed a spectacular season at 20-6.
The Blackfoot boys team also won the HCC championship, posting a 9-1 record to claim the top seed in the district tournament.
Blackfoot’s high water mark came during that regular season where they went 11-1 at one stretch. February was unkind to the Broncos, however, as an off night vs. Shelley and a neutral site loss to Burley closed the door on 2025-26.
When it was over, Blackfoot had the HCC regular season title, an 18-7 record, and a power ranking 100-points higher than any team the conference.
ShelleyThe highlight of the Shelley boys basketball season may have been a late-Saturday morning game against Sugar-Salem at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
The Russets (8-17) took Sugar to the wire, finishing one happy rim bounce shy of victory in that hallowed hall.
The Russets went on to score an upset over rival Blackfoot in the district tournament before falling to state qualifier Bonneville and then to Blackfoot to close districts and the 2025-26 campaign.
The Lady Russets had an up and down season of their own, posting a record nearly identical (7-17) to the Shelley boys team.
That said, Shelley found its legs midway through the season, finishing 5-6 over its final 11 after opening the season 2-11. The Russets scored their final win of the season with a home win over Bonneville before closing up shop following a loss at Skyline.
The Shelley wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to Nampa for the state championships, placing eighth on the 26-team field with 82 points.
The Russets put half of their state qualifiers on the medalist podium, getting runner-up finishes from Tytan Freeman, Ryker Balmforth and John Behm.
Snake RiverThe only team champion in this season look-back came from the Panthers of Snake River, who scored a dominant victory at the state wrestling tournament with a 290.5-point runaway. Runner-up Homedale was 35 points back.
That state title gives Snake River the most state wrestling titles of any school in state history with 15, one better than Teton.
Snake put a whopping 25 wrestlers in the state championship field with 14 walking away with medals. Morris Heib won the team’s only gold at 98, with Kelton Reynolds mining silver, and Guys Packer, Jaxon Phillips, Logan Marshall, Pierce Hales, and Clancy Howell placing third.
Snake Rivers girls team put a pair of competitors in the state field, and is a team on the rise, says coach Ty Minto.
The Snake boys basketball team closed the regular season with nine consecutive victories and a district championship, and all systems were go at state after a 2-point win over rival Marsh Valley at the state tournament.
The Panthers stumbled with a 10-point loss to Cole Valley in the semifinal round, and closed with a four-point loss to Teton in the consolation final. When the fur settled, Snake closed its season 6-0 in conference play with a 17-10 overall mark.
Fresh off a winless season in Moreland, the Lady Panthers recovered some of their swagger with an 8-16 campaign that ended at the hands of Marsh Valley at the district tournament in Arimo.
It should be noted those eight wins were produced by a team with zero seniors and zero players taller than 5-foot-8. So they have that going for them, which is nice.
FirthThe Lady Cougars dominated the Nuclear Conference this past season, cruising to an umblemished 8-0 record on their way to the state tournament.
Dethroned by Ririe in a see-saw, multi-game affair at Thunder Ridge High School that had the flavor of a WNBA championship series, Firth rebounded with a dominant showing against West Side.
Subsequent losses to Ambrose and Grangeville left the Cougars in fourth with a solid 22-7 overall mark.
The Firth boys also labored against rival Ririe, falling to the Bulldogs in the district title game at Thunder Ridge. Also like the girls, Firth (17-10) won one and lost two at the state tournament.
The Firth wrestling team placed ninth with 71 points despite sending just six wrestlers to the state championships in Nampa. Placers included Beau Ringle (215), Michael Lizarraga, Tiago Luna and Brock Larsen.
AberdeenThe Tigers placed 16th in a field of 44 at the state championships in Nampa, scoring a state title at 215 courtesy of Tannon Nelson. CamRie Inskeep was the sole representative for the Aberdeen girls at state.
The Lady Tigers finished second in South East Idaho Conference play, going 10-14 and nearly edging their way into the state bracket. Aberdeen hit its stride late in the season, winning five straight before losing district tournament games to eventual state champ Malad, and then West Side.
It was tough sledding all around for the Aberdeen boys basketball team, finishing winless in 23 games.
