A 16-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting a Blackfoot woman was arrested early Friday morning in Pocatello after a manhunt that stretched across Southeast Idaho, police said.

Bobby G. Jackson was taken into custody without incident at a Pocatello residence and is being held at the 3B Juvenile Detention Facility near Idaho Falls on a charge of first-degree murder with bond set at $1 million.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Rebecca Rivera of Blackfoot. Investigators have found no known relationship between Rivera and Jackson, police said.

The homicide occurred at Rivera’s residence at a trailer park at 1159 S. Broadway St. in Blackfoot. Police believe Jackson fatally shot Rivera sometime after 12:40 p.m. Thursday before fleeing on foot.

Preliminary investigation indicates Jackson stole a firearm prior to the homicide and was reported as a runaway. After the shooting, he left Blackfoot and traveled to Chubbuck, where he was spotted near Walmart around 3 p.m. Thursday, police said. He was later located in Pocatello.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to public safety and evidence indicates Jackson acted alone.

Officers from the Blackfoot Police Department responded to a report of a deceased individual at Rivera’s South Broadway residence late Thursday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of her body and detectives from the Bingham County Joint Detective Division immediately launched a homicide investigation.

Police quickly identified Jackson as the suspect and issued a news release Thursday night stating he may have left the Blackfoot area. An early Friday morning police text alert to the public confirmed he had been spotted in Chubbuck.

During the manhunt, police warned the public that Jackson was “extremely dangerous” and possibly armed, urging residents to lock their doors and remain vigilant.

Police credited swift cooperation from community members in Blackfoot, Pocatello, Chubbuck and Fort Hall as critical in leading to Jackson’s arrest.

Blackfoot police received assistance in the search for and apprehension of Jackson from the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Shelley Police Department, Chubbuck Police Department, Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, Pocatello Police Department and Idaho State Police. The Bingham County Coroner’s Office and Bingham County Prosecutor’s Office also provided assistance.

Specific details about the homicide will not be released at this time to preserve the integrity of the judicial process, police said.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Jackson faces a maximum penalty of life in prison. First-degree murder is typically punishable by death in Idaho, but because Jackson is younger than age 18, he cannot face capital punishment.
