The Blackfoot Police Department is providing an update regarding the homicide investigation initiated on October 23, 2025, following a response to a residence on South Broadway.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Rebecca Rivera of Blackfoot. At this time, investigators have found no known relationship between Rivera and the suspect, Bobby Jackson. Our hearts go out to the Rivera family, our community, and all those affected by this tragic crime.

To preserve the integrity of the judicial process and increase the likelihood of a fair trial and conviction, specific details of the homicide will not be released at this time.

Preliminary investigation indicates that prior to the homicide, Jackson stole a firearm and was later reported as a runaway. The homicide occurred at the trailer park located at 1159 Broadway. Sometime after 12:40 PM, Jackson arrived at Rivera’s residence, where it is believed that he fatally shot her. He then fled the scene on foot, quickly leaving Blackfoot and traveling to Chubbuck. Jackson was later located at a residence in Pocatello and taken into custody without incident.

There is no ongoing threat to public safety. Evidence indicates that Jackson acted alone in this incident.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the law enforcement agencies that responded swiftly and worked tirelessly from the initial call through the night and into the morning. Although Jackson is now in custody, cases of this nature require extensive investigative work to ensure a successful prosecution. Jackson is currently in custody at the 3B Detention Facility, facing a charge of first-degree murder. His bond has been set at $1,000,000.

We also appreciate the cooperation from the Bingham County Coroner’s Office. The Bingham County Prosecutor’s Office has been instrumental in moving this case forward in a timely manner.

We remain committed to keeping the public informed while protecting the integrity of the investigation. The cooperation of community members from Blackfoot, Pocatello, Chubbuck, and Fort Hall played a critical role in leading to Jackson’s arrest. We are grateful for their assistance and willingness to come forward throughout the night.
