Carey 48, North Gem 6

CAREY - North Gem won't be forced to wait long for a chance at avenging its 48-6 loss to Carey in its regular-season finale on Friday.

The two teams will play again in the opening round of the 1A playoffs next week.

"I think we have more to benefit playing them twice than they do," North Gem coach Kevin Carey said. "We can go back and look at the film, look at what we did poorly, what we did well and hopefully do something a little different."

North Gem (5-4) kept up with Carey for a half. The two teams were tied at 6 after the first quarter, and North Gem stayed within two touchdowns before halftime. But Carey broke away with four touchdowns in the third quarter.

Carey's Heath Adamson ran for touchdowns of three, 12 and 76 yards.

Mitchel Hall scored North Gem's lone touchdown - which gave it a 6-0 lead - on a 54-yard pass from Austin Wuttke.

Wuttke finished the game 7-of-12 for 89 yards. But Carey held North Gem's ground game to just two total yards.

The two teams will meet again at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carey.
