Bear Lake 45, Malad 38

MONTPELIER - The Bear Lake girls' basketball team overcame a sluggish start to defeat Malad 45-38 on Friday.

The Bears trailed 15-6 after the first quarter, and fell even further behind at halftime.

"They came out on fire and we couldn't do anything," Bear Lake coach Jim Mattson said.

But in the second half, it was all Bear Lake. The Bears scored 32 points over the final two quarters and pulled away for the win.

Hillary Hendricks led the charge with 22 points.

"We changed our defense and got to scoring," Mattson said. "We got some fast breaks, started rbounding and got a little life. The girls got their engines running."

With the win, Bear Lake improved to 5-11. It next plays at American Falls on Wednesday.
