Storm Shelley and his Century teammates knew the stakes when they went into Highland Wednesday night.

The Diamondbacks delivered in a 56-47 win over the Rams, completing a city sweep for the season.

"We all wanted to win. We knew we were 3-0 in the city, and we wanted it," Shelley said.

Shelley played a big role in it by recording 22 points on the night, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close the first quarter and added another from beyond the arc and a jumper to open the second quarter.

With the win, the Diamondbacks secured a perfect 4-0 record among the Gate City's three high schools.

The Diamondbacks took a 16-10 lead into the second quarter on the heels of Shelley's buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Shortly into the second quarter, Century had extended the lead to 21-10 with five more points from Shelley.

From that point on, it was nearly all Highland for the remainder of the first half. The Rams went on a 14-5 run during the last six minutes of the second quarter, including two 3-pointers during the last minute from senior guard Buck Buchanan.

Highland was down 26-24 at the half and finally appeared ready for a shootout. Century had other plans, however, and the Diamondbacks put up 11 points during the third quarter while holding the Rams to just six points. Century took a 37-30 lead into the fourth quarter.

Highland had its best offensive output during the final quarter, scoring 17 points. But the Rams couldn't get the defensive stops needed to win. In fact, Century also had its best output of the night at 19 points.

Highland coach Christ Frost said poor executions cost the Rams.

"We had 21 turnovers. That's the big thing," he said. "We didn't play that team game like we did against Twin (Falls) on Friday."

Highland senior post Taysom Hill, who also scored 22 points during the game, said the Rams gave Century too many second chances.

"They had a lot of offensive boards, and we made a lot of turnovers," Hill said. "When you do that, it's tough to win a game."

Century coach Cody Shelley said his players were focused throughout the game and put together four complete quarters of basketball.

"We were efficient offensively. We were balanced on both sides of the ball and limited the mistakes," he said.

Wednesday's game was Highland's final regular season home game, and the Rams dropped to 10-9 on the season. The team's final regular season game is on Friday, when Highland travels across town to take on Pocatello at The Palace.

Century also ends its regular season on Friday when the team hosts Blackfoot. The Diamondbacks improved to 13-6 on the season with Wednesday's victory.
