Century coach Travis Hobson said he challenged his team’s manhood in practice the week after losing to Rigby by 26 points.

His team responded with a 20-13 victory over Minico on Friday in Rupert.

“We have the talent,” Hobson said. “Where we lack the size, we make up for it with speed, ability and intelligence.”

Century quarterback Chris Hansen completed 24 of his 34 passing attempts for 235 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Dallin Blaser caught nine passes for 137 yards and a TD. Rhett Fackrell had 68 yards receiving and Tristan Kayembe finished with 92 yards on the ground.

Century (1-1) takes on Highland on Friday.

MARSH VALLEY 36, FILER 6

Styrling Morris ran for 240 yards and Marsh Valley upended Filer 36-6 Friday on the road.

Morris finished with two touchdowns on 22 carries, as the Eagles won their second straight game to begin the 2015 season.

“It means the world,” Morris said. “It feels so good to be 2-0 after having such a rough season last year.”

Stetson Iverson added 34 yards on the ground, Caden May had 26 yards and Kooper Sorensen finished with 24 yards.

Marsh Valley (2-0) hosts West Side on Friday.

ABERDEEN 35, WENDELL 26

Aberdeen moved the ball at will and beat Wendell 35-26 Friday at home.

Hilario Carrillo ran for 76 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries, Carson Beck had 61 yards and Rivin Mack finished with 51 yards and one touchdown.

Quarterback Jared Carrasco scored twice on the ground and threw one touchdown, a 49 yard bomb to Josh Rocha in the third quarter.

“We had a lot of good things happen. Our offense really moved the ball well and played good,” said Tigers coach Jeff Duffin. “We just had a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes and let up big plays.”

No. 2 Aberdeen (2-0) plays Friday at No. 3 North Fremont.

WEST SIDE 30, RICH COUNTY 16

Riley Long scored two first-half touchdowns and No. 1 West Side knocked off Rich County (Utah) 30-16 Friday on the road.

Both the Pirates and Rebels won state champions in their respective states last season. But in the battle of Idaho versus Utah, West Side’s defense carried the Pirates once again. Rich County couldn’t get on the scoreboard until the third quarter on a punt return.

Shayler Thain added to West Side’s lead in the third quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run, and Branson Hatch punched in a 1-yard insurance TD in the fourth.

West Side plays Friday at Marsh Valley.

MALAD 12, RIRIE 0

Hayden Green returned his third interception of the game 40 yards to help seal Malad’s 12-0 victory over Ririe on Friday at home.

The Dragons’ defense forced five Ririe turnovers, and held the Bulldogs to 128 yards on 49 plays.

Offensively, Malad is starting freshman quarterback Hayden Degn, who finished 3 for 14 for 33 yards and two interceptions against Ririe. But Malad coach Coda Tchida said Degn’s stats are just part of the story.

“I thought he did a great job for us,” Tchida said. “His stats don’t show he did well, but I thought he stepped it up in a spot where a lot of kids wouldn’t like the spotlight.”

Malad jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter after Josh Morley busted into the end zone from 1 yard out. Chase Davis led the Dragons with 77 yards rushing, and Bracken Degn added 72 yards on the ground.

Malad (1-1) hosts Firth on Friday.

GRACE 27, ROCKLAND 6

Junior Lincoln Skinner had 140 yards and a touchdown to help push Grace past Rockland 27-6 Friday at home.

The Grizzlies stuck to the ground attack and finished with 343 yards. Talon Nance had 95 yards on nine carries. Efrain Velazquez added 90 yards and two touchdowns on a game-high 16 carries.

“We played a lot harder this week,” said Grizzlies coach Brandon Sanchez. “We played a lot tougher. We came out and responded.”

Grace (1-1) hosts Horseshoe Bend on Friday.

CAREY 52, NORTH GEM 12

North Gem couldn’t contain Carey’s quarterback and lost 52-12 to the Panthers on Friday in Carey.

“I really thought defensively that we could handle them better than we did,” said Cowboys coach Dana Strong. “Their quarter is really special. He can really run and was tough to handle.”

North Gem’s Tyler Perkins ran the ball 10 times for 50 yards and one touchdown. Dallin Lloyd added 98 yards and one touchdown off four carries. Quarterback Walker Davis ran for 53 yards and threw for 50.

North Gem (1-1) hosts Richfield on Friday.
