Two plays. Twenty-eight seconds. Fourteen points. That was all it took for Century to finish off Burley.

Before Michael Semons and the Diamondbacks' offense could even take a snap, Century had put the game away when Rhys Borchert returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and then Nate Wall intercepted the first Bobcat pass of the night for another touchdown.

Once the offense got its chance to step on the field, it did just fine. Century added three rushing touchdowns and a passing score and cruised to a 52-6 lead over the Bobcats at press time late in the fourth quarter, becoming the only one of the three Pocatello teams to start the year with a victory.

The only blemish for the Diamondbacks came late in the first half, when Burley put together a touchdown drive that was capped off with a short touchdown pass. Even then, the Diamondbacks blocked the extra point.

Borchert made sure everyone inside Holt Arena knew that it was going to be a good night for the Diamondbacks on the opening kickoff. After running into traffic, the senior back reversed his direction and had nothing but turf in front of him. Twelve seconds into the game, Century had all the points that it would need for the night.

Things went so well for Century that Diamondbacks senior quarterback Michael Semons didn't make it through the third quarter before coach Nate Borchert decided the first-team offense had done enough for one night. Semons only threw for one touchdown pass in the opening game, a strike to Ty Ravsten in the corner of the end zone. Otherwise, the Diamondbacks did their damage on the ground.

Jase Johnson did the most damage on the scoreboard for Century, scoring two touchdowns on the ground and adding 10 points with his leg via seven extra points and a late field goal.

The Diamondbacks will be off next week before hosting Madison. The Bobcats of Madison didn't fare much better than their namesakes from Burley, losing 51-19 to defending state champion Hillcrest in its opener.
